C Solar, a Connecticut based provider of renewable energy solutions, has been hired to install six wind turbines on Thornton International’s headquarters in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Glenn Cucinell, President of C Solar LLC, stated: “This is an exciting project. Last year we installed solar panels to help their manufacturing process use green energy. This year we are installing the wind turbines. In addition to 264 solar panels already installed, Thornton International’s headquarters will now include 6 wind turbines. When completed the entire project is expected to generate 87,512 kWH, which will equal an anticipated savings of $15,750 annually. Thornton International is truly at the forefront renewable energy generation for manufacturing and we are honored to continue our relationship with them.”
"As business people," says Brett Thornton, Thornton International's Vice President, "we want to do what we can to protect the environment; however, every decision we make must be done so with a cost benefit analysis. Glenn and C Solar worked closely with us to design a system that is commercially viable and will significantly reduce our energy costs after a brief investment recovery period. It’s a win-win all the way around; for the environment, for Thornton International and for our customers"
C Solar will be installing six Honeywell Wind Turbine units. The unique gearless units measure 6 feet in diameter and each is capable of producing up to 2752 kWh/yr. Traditional gearbox wind turbines require minimum wind speeds of 7.5 mph to cut in and start generating power. Honeywell’s design allows it to start generating energy with wind as low as 2 mph.
Thornton continued: “When we started this process we were not sure of the outcome. Today, however, we are so pleased and proud of our commitment to solar and wind power that we have incorporated it in all of our marketing efforts. Our website not only tells the history of Thornton International and the vision of my father, but it showcases our commitment to the environment. C Solar made it all possible; we could not have done it without them.”
