Balfour Beatty Secures Gate Replacement Project at Hollywood International Airport

Balfour Beatty Construction, in partnership with James A. Cummings, Inc., was awarded a contract to manage construction for the Terminal 4 Gate Replacement at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Valued at approximately $100 million, the project is part of Broward County Aviation Department’s $1 billion expansion program to provide a user-friendly, world-class facility for the 21 million passengers who travel through the airport each year.

Intended to make room for the extension of the south runway, the gate replacement project represents the first of two phases that will replace the existing concourse and alter its orientation from north-south to east-west. The project also includes creating expansive, diverse interior spaces to support the airport’s growing international market.

Balfour Beatty Construction has had a successful 30-year history with the airport, which began with a series of expansions in the 1980s, spanning multiple terminals.

“Our team is thrilled about the opportunity to work at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport again,” says Rob Gillette, vice president at Balfour Beatty. “We’ve been successfully partnering with Cummings for more than 14 years, and this will be our fourth project together at the airport.”

Preconstruction for the project is slated to begin in Fall 2010, with phased construction scheduled to start in Summer 2011.

Balfour Beatty Construction’s portfolio includes projects at Washington Dulles International Airport, Miami International Airport, Orlando International Airport, DFW International Airport, and Jacksonville International Airport. Recently, in a joint venture known as BARC, the company was awarded preconstruction and construction services for DFW International Airport’s seven-year, $900 million Terminal Development Program.
