The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SHAW) today announced it has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Department of Energy for advisory and assistance services to the Office of Nuclear Energy.
Shaw’s team will support the Office of Nuclear Energy’s mission toward advancing nuclear power as a resource capable of meeting the U.S.’ energy, environmental and security needs. Shaw will provide analytical assessments; conceptual designs; research and development support; advice on policy development and research and development requirements; training; and tours of operational nuclear facilities.

In related work for the Department of Energy, Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC designed and is constructing the U.S.’ first-of-a-kind Mixed Oxide (MOX) Fuel Fabrication Facility. When completed, the facility will be capable of converting 3.5 metric tons of weapons-grade plutonium annually into MOX fuel assemblies for use in commercial nuclear power plants.
Shaw is a major global provider of power solutions with a wide portfolio, including nuclear, fossil and renewables. Leading the resurgence of nuclear power, Shaw is building the first new nuclear units to be awarded in the U.S. in 30 years, with six AP1000™ nuclear units at three sites, in addition to the four new units under construction in China. Shaw also provides systemwide maintenance and modification services to approximately 35 percent of U.S. nuclear units, including the country’s two largest nuclear fleets.
Shaw is one of six firms selected to compete on task orders under this indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract. The amount included in Shaw's backlog of unfilled orders in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2010 was undisclosed.
