Chicago Offices of MMC Earn LEED Gold Certification

Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC) announced today that it has been awarded LEED Gold certification for its offices at 155 North Wacker Drive in Chicago’s financial district. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the U.S. Green Building Council’s certification system for the design, construction, and operation of green buildings.

Elizabeth Barry, MMC’s Sustainability Officer, said: “We are pleased to achieve the prestigious LEED Gold certification for MMC’s Chicago offices, the first of many such designations anticipated across our real estate portfolio. With several of our locations in the process of attaining LEED certification, we strive to integrate green strategies into the design, construction, and workplace practices throughout our offices. MMC has made a strategic commitment to sustainability and we are dedicated to implementing changes that benefit our employees, our clients, and the communities where we operate.”

Three of MMC’s major businesses – Mercer, Guy Carpenter and Oliver Wyman – are co-located at 155 North Wacker Drive, occupying 4.5 floors, or approximately 120,000 square feet, of the 46-story building. The MMC office is one of only 39 LEED Gold certified interiors in Chicago.

MMC achieved LEED certification after the rigorous examination of its energy, lighting, water and material use as well the implementation of other sustainable strategies in the overall work environment. The green strategies MMC employed in the construction and material selection were designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a healthier work environment not only for MMC’s approximately 600 employees in its offices at North Wacker, but for the community at large.

Adele Simmons, a member of the MMC Board of Directors and chair of its Corporate Responsibility Committee, which oversees sustainability, said: “MMC has made great strides in the past few years to deepen its commitment to sustainability. This is reflected not only in the company’s dedication to sustainable design and practices, which are being integrated into a number of its offices, but also in the advice and services MMC provides to clients on the business aspects of sustainability and green risk. The MMC Board is a strong supporter of these initiatives.”
