Michigan-Based Structural Engineering Firm Receives Three New Contracts

Ruby+Associates, a Farmington Hills based structural engineering firm that has long been considered a pioneer in the development of constructability, today announced three new project contracts.

The projects serve the health care, high tech and long span sectors in Kentucky, New York and Virginia, respectively.

Owensboro Medical Health Systems (Kentucky) is creating its "new hospital" program which promises a new state-of-the-art facility with an innovative design process, as well as an environmentally responsible and visionary approach to healthcare.  Capitalizing on the company's extensive experience in healthcare, Ruby was called by its partner Midwest Steel, Inc. to provide connection design and an erection procedure for a new 11 story patient bed tower, another 11 story patient building and a diagnostics and testing facility.

The second Ruby opportunity comes from GlobalFoundries, a microchip manufacturer based on the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Saratoga County, NY.  Ruby will support GlobalFoundries' expansion plans with erection engineering, temporary stability services, and crane logistics.  The new building combines both precast concrete and steel elements and is topped by 156 foot long trusses.

Ruby's third assignment is in the long span sector where the company will assist in the erection and temporary stability of Northrop Grumman's newest shipbuilding facility in Newport News, VA. Ruby will be assisting in setting the 176 foot trusses to cover the 67,000 square foot structure measuring 120 feet from floor to ceiling.   Ruby will assist to erect the girders that support two overhead cranes - one 120 ton crane 103 feet above the shop floor and a second 20 ton crane 80 feet above the shop floor.

"At Ruby+Associates, we have built a portfolio of success stories in each of these construction sectors and are pleased to work with Midwest Steel and others to bring clients' projects to life," said Jay Ruby, President and CEO of Ruby+Associates.  "Our constructability philosophy incorporates a collaborative approach to planning, designing, sequencing and erecting buildings to deliver creative and relevant solutions that achieve overall project goals."

Ruby's relevant project experience that helped the firm earn the new business includes (healthcare) the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, IL; C.S. Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI; University of Kentucky Hospital; and Mercy Hospital in Tiffin, OH; (technology) Alstom Power Iatan Generating Station in Weston, MS; and Noble Environmental Power Windpark in Clinton, NY; (long span) the Naval Air Station Helicopter Hangar Complex in Jacksonville, FL; University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ; and the Ground Transportation Center Pedestrian Bridge at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Romulus, MI.
