PetSmart Receives LEED Silver Certification for its Nevada Distribution Center

PetSmart, a specialty pet services and solutions provider, has declared the receipt of LEED Silver Certification for its distribution center in McCarran, Nevada.

To achieve LEED certification, the company has introduced a number of eco-friendly changes within the building after taking into account its physical appearance, its employees and the existing environment of the building.

The energy efficiency features incorporated in the distribution center includes a white reflective roof with a weighted solar reflectance index (SRI) of 122%, energy saving cooling and heating units and automatic sensors that react to the occupancy to cut down the use of energy. The building deploys a fish water recycling system to save 90% of water usage and includes an underground water storage system to store 10,000 gallons to sustain the water recycling functions of the building. The landscaping arrangement of the building utilizes 78% less quantity of potable water than the system that was in use before. The solid waste management facility in the building recycles and utilizes around 80% of the consumables utilized in the building and utilizes eco-friendly certified products for cleaning purposes. The pest management services in the building utilize 100% sustainable products and equipment. The building incorporates ENERGY STAR rated fittings and chairs made of recycled products and utilizes green recycled paper. The company also undertook a waste management audit.

The LEED certification at the Nevada distribution center of the company is the result of its environment supporting policy, Think Twice, which promotes sustainable practices to introduce business value and ways to deem ecological impact in every facet of its business.
