The Hotel Andaluz, managed by Gemstone Hotels & Resorts, declared it has received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold certification. The certification was confirmed by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
The hotel has become the only historic building to receive the LEED Gold certification in the Southwest region and the second in the U.S.
The Hotel had spent around $30 million dollars for its renovation in 2009 and incorporated a host of green features to achieve the LEED gold certification. It has installed solar water heater to provide hot water and erected energy-saving windows. To cut down its power consumption, the hotel installed an efficient energy management system and used LED and fluorescent lights. It also cut down its water usage by more than 45%.
A recycling program in the hotel efficiently recycles paper, cardboard, metal and plastic and all food waste is converted into manure.
