Merchant Energy to Build East Cheyenne Gas Storage Project in Colorado
Merchant Energy Partners has announced its plans to perform a groundbreaking ceremony for its proposed East Cheyenne Gas Storage (ECGS) project located near Sterling, Colorado, on 23rd May 2011. Governor Hickenlooper is expected to grace the occasion and deliver a speech. The project is anticipated to be completed with an investment of around $300 million.
The ECGS project is FERC certified to hold a maximum of 18.9 Billion Cubic Feet (Bcf) capacity of working gas. The storage facility plays an important role to sustain the use of natural gas and to promote clean air. ECGS will remain the first ever independent facility for storing natural gas in the Front Range, which will assist to improve the pipeline capability that carries gas out of the Rockies.
The new construction is anticipated to commence in a few weeks time and will be completed in a few years time. The company anticipates completing its working gas injection facility during the fall and the full cycling potentialities at the start of next year.
