McCarthy Becomes Construction Manager for GSU’s Humanities-Law Building
Georgia State University has selected McCarthy as the Construction Manager for its Humanities-Law Building in downtown Atlanta.
In 2010, McCarthy completed the award-winning Parker H. Petit Science Center and this Humanities-Law Building is the second project for McCarthy with the valued research university. The company has planned to start the construction in 2012. Once after the completion of the Humanities-Law Building, it will seek the LEED certification.
This 200,000-square-foot building will be built on an area of 2.42-acre that is situated on the main campus of the university. This is the Phase I of the multi-building university complex. The construction cost of this building is $62.7 million and will contain a public law library, office space, moot courtrooms, legal clinics and classrooms. McCarthy has designed a modern exterior and interactive, collaborative interior for the Humanities-Law Building and it expects the expansion of the students to nearly 800. The project architects are SmithGroup from Washington, DC and Stevens & Wilkinson, a local Atlanta firm.
