IESO has successfully implemented a number of energy saving eco-friendly programs to cut down water and energy usage within the building. The building received LEED certification under the existing building category.
The three-storey construction located in Mississauga, covering an area of around 148,000 square feet was originally built in 1990 and went through a 30,000-square-foot improvement in the construction in 2002. The company has implemented a policy to purchase green products, introduced a total waste management system that saved most of the items from reaching landfills and introduced a regular recycling process to achieve LEED silver certification. The building also installed water conserving fixtures during the last two years to save nearly 34% of its water. It also installed a sub-metering to monitor the power consumption details of its cooling tower and building and erected a weather station to manage water irrigation to its lawns.
