Aecon Group declared that a joint venture in which its Infrastructure Division is taking part has secured a project with Metro Vancouver to build a Water Supply Tunnel below the Fraser River in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. Aecon holds 40% stake in the joint venture.
Under the terms of the accord, the joint venture will immerse two shafts and dig up 1,000 m of earth pressure balanced tunnel utilizing pre-fabricated segmental lining below the Fraser River from Surrey to Coquitlam, BC. The project construction also includes establishment of two shaft sites, construction of two valve chambers and deployment of welded steel pipe lining. The construction, which is expected to commence soon, is anticipated to get completed in summer of 2014.
The contract is a segment of the water transmission system risk management program of Greater Vancouver. The new tunnel and water pipe installations will substitute the present pipeline below the Fraser River.
