Alcoa Inks Partnership Deal to Build Information Center on Sustainability

Alcoa declared that the company’s Canadian Global Primary Products Operations and the new Centre for Sustainable Development have signed a partnership deal.

As per the agreement, Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation will invest $3 million for five years in the partnership deal to build an information center on sustainability that can be accessed by the public.

The new 65,000 sq ft, five-floor building situated in Montreal will accommodate the offices of numerous social support organizations. The building is aiming for a Platinum LEED certification. Like every contemporary building, the center is constructed using aluminum as one of the building materials. The utility of aluminum improves the general environmental performance of the center and allows it to amass points for LEED certification.

The center will allow the visitors to know about the solid steps taken to solve key environmental problems. Besides apparent connection with the works carried out by the tenants of the buildings, this information center will provide supplies on energy efficiency programs, recycling, renovation support programs, environmental regulations, eco-friendly horticulture, mobilization/awareness and educational initiatives.

Alcoa Canada Global Primary Products’ President, Pierre Morin stated that the collaboration between the Centre for Sustainable Development and Alcoa paves the way for novel and exciting prospects. The company is excited to partner for the accomplishment of this novel and key sustainability-driven project, he said.
