ENERGY STAR Certification Awarded to Office Depot’s Headquarters in Florida

Office Depot has declared that its global headquarters situated in Boca Raton, Florida, has received the ENERGY STAR rating of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The certification emphasizes that the facility’s energy efficiency performance is in the top 25% of similar buildings across the country and it fulfills the stringent energy efficient performance levels of the EPA.

To obtain the ENERGY STAR rating, Office Depot carried out various energy-conserving activities. The retailer has retrofitted many of the lighting systems at the campus of its global headquarters with energy-efficient lighting systems. It replaced all the T5 lamps with 4100 K, 27-W lamps and all parking lot lights with 42-W florescent lamps. It also decreased the number of lamps that worked during the daylight period by 70%.

Energy STAR-certified commercial buildings consume 35% less energy on an average and emit 35% less CO2 compared to other buildings. Office Depot enhanced its energy performance by strategically managing energy throughout the organization and carrying out cost-saving upgradation to its building.

Office Depot’s Vice President of Construction, Edward Costa stated that the company is happy to earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR rating for its energy saving efforts. This certification illustrates the company’s commitment towards environmental leadership, while also reducing the company’s energy expenditures, he said. The Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch, Jean Lupinacci stated that enhancing the energy efficiency of the country’s buildings is important to save environment.
