NCC Construction Secures Order from Facebook to Build Data Center
NCC Construction, Sweden has received a contract from Facebook to build a data center in Luleå. The company has inked this contract with Pinnacle Sweden. The total value of this contract is around SEK 800 M, in which the value of the company’s share is around SEK 400 M. The project is the first among three data centers that are scheduled for the region.
The project will be undertaken as a joint venture between NCC, Fortis Construction and DPR Construction.
The company has calculated the area of the data center to be 28,000 sq. m on completion. Facebook has laid down strict rules for energy-classification and it will be ensured that the data center receives a LEED gold level certification on completion.
NCC Construction Sweden’s Department Manager for the northern region, has explained that since the facility will rate high on energy consumption, the customer requires specific energy-classification rules to be followed in order to achieve the LEED Gold level, which is the second highest rating of LEED. The company will utilize Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) technique all over the project.
The company will start the construction in October and has planned to complete the same by December 2012.
About 300 workers will be contracted for this project. A major part of the project will include advanced installation works.
