Quanex’s Restructuring and Consolidation Plan for Insulating Glass Spacer Business

Quanex Building Products has planned to restructure and consolidate its insulated glass spacer business.

The company is currently manufacturing warm-edge spacer products at its Barbourville and Cambridge sites in the US. This plan has announced the shut-down of the Barbourville facility of the company permanently. The company has moved the equipment that is utilized for the production of the single seal spacer system to the company’s facility in Cambridge.

The CEO and President of Quanex, David D. Petratis stated that the company has been committed to become the head in the manufacture of fenestration parts, systems and products, and service clients globally. The company is working continuously to find opportunities for improving its potential to provide excellent services and products to the increasing client base. The company trusts that the consolidation will ensure servicing the clients effectively, though there was difficulty in closing the spacer facility in Kentucky. Quanex’s spacer clients can anticipate similar experience and service during the transition.

In addition, the plan of restructuring involves integration of research and development and administrative operations.

The company is expecting to complete the operation consolidation and the further shut down of the Barbourville facility in the 2012 third quarter of the company.
