RosTelecom Constructs New Data Center in Moscow
Russian telecommunications company, RosTelecom has announced that it is part of a national project to construct a large cloud computing platform. The company has already started the construction of a large data center in Moscow.
RosTelecom will invest RUB 10 billion for the project, which is likely to be completed by 2015. The company is entirely responsible for the construction of the data center as part of the “Informational Society 2011-2020” federal program. The data center will cover an area of 10,000 sqm with a total area span of 40,000 sqm.
The project will have a capacity to generate 40 MW which will be produced before the end of 2012. Since the data center will have modules over three floors, it is expected to increase its capacity and at the same time reduce the cost/sqm. The first phase of the project, which comprises design and construction, will be completed by the end of 2012 and full-fledged operations are likely to begin by 2013. Currently the national cloud computing platform is available across seven data centers located in the regional offices of RosTelecom. The company also has additional capacity available. Cloud computing technology involves minimal expenditure since it eliminates costs related to purchasing, upgrading, maintenance and installation. The objective behind cloud computing is to share telecommunication services and information through the computing platform.
