Flooring Adventures has enhanced the sustainability of its product Tuff-Seal Interlocking floor by using BioVinyl that is made of DOW ECOLIBRIUM bio-based plasticizer. The new formulation was developed by Teknor Apex Company.
The Tuff-Seal Interlocking system creates a water tight surface without using any adhesive and involves very little subfloor preparation. The interlocking system can be installed easily in any industrial, institutional and commercial interior area. The DOW ECOLIBRIUM is bio-based plasticizers that are derived from the non-food portion of crops and are made from fully renewable ingredients. Other corn-based bio-plastics are derived from natural food supply. In flexible vinyl compounds, DOW ECOLIBRIUM helps in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40% when it is used in the place of regular phthalate ester-based PVC plasticizers.
Tuff-Seal consisting of DOW ECOLIBRIUM is now 70% derived from natural resources such as salt, plants and minerals and is made without using lead or phthalates. The materials used in Tuff-Seal create 33% lesser carbon footprint than other materials and provide additional dimensional stability in low and high temperatures. Tuff-Seal has the potential to receive LEED certification since it is highly resistant to UV rays, provides enhanced colour hold and is recyclable. Though the flooring system uses new materials, it retains its other qualities which are resistant to fire and chemicals, slip and other properties that enhance its performance.
