Central Concrete to Supply Low-CO2 for San Francisco 49er Stadium
US-based Central Concrete will supply its low-CO2 concrete for the 49er stadium in San Francisco. As per the contract Central Concrete will supply 80,000 cu.yd of concrete for the complete structure of the stadium and the auger cast piles.
The concrete mixes chosen for the project will reduce the total carbon footprint by 23 million pounds.
Central Concrete is known for its ability to combine high performance engineered concrete with regular concrete to create a mix that reduces carbon footprints substantially. The company operates through 11 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area which gives them the capability to complete large-scale projects. Earlier projects include supply of concrete for ultra-green projects such as the San Francisco Public Utilities Headquarters, San Francisco Academy of Sciences and NASA Ames Building. Projects involving sports facilities include Santa Clara University Stephen Schott Baseball Stadium, San Jose Arena and Stanford Stadium.
According to the President of Devcon Construction who provided the contract to Central Concrete the selection of a supplier who can deliver high performance concrete for large scale projects and at the same time reduce the carbon footprint of the project is important for a significant public building such as a stadium. Central Concrete will feature the 49er symbol in all its trucks to mark this project.
