The Curry Subaru-Hyundai in Cortlandt Manor has inaugurated the first ‘Green’ Automobile Dealership in New York City. The grand opening ceremony of the LEED-registered dealership was attended by more than 150 guests.
Associates of the 30,000-square-foot project comprise OLA Consulting Engineers, PC of Hawthorne N.Y., Architectural Visions, PLLC of Mahopac N.Y., and GTL Construction, LLC of White Plains N.Y.
The office building was constructed with recycled and locally harvested construction materials; water-efficient landscaping was employed for protecting the local eco-system from invasive plant species as well as for preserving drinking water meant for irrigation; energy-efficient interior based lighting systems were used in order to reduce electricity costs; light-colored high-reflectivity roofing was designed to lessen the urban heat island effect; outdoor lighting was integrated to prevent light pollution from spreading to neighboring residential areas; construction waste management plan was implemented to harvest construction waste for recycling or reuse; insulation and high-performance glass were used to minimize stress on HVAC systems and allow for smaller systems; and bio-based spray foam roof insulation was used to promote greater insulating value and curtail air infiltration.
According to Bob Carinci, Curry’s Chief Operations Officer, the new dealership venture will enable other offices to think of eco-friendly options for the workplace.
According to Curry Automotive’s CEO/Owner, Bernard F. Curry, another LEED-registered showroom will be built this year keeping in mind employees and customers ease.
