Aggregate Industries US (AIUS), a Holcim Group Company, is marking the centennial of its parent company with Together for Communities, a year-long 2012 initiative in which employees lead local volunteer projects.
Throughout the year employees from AIUS' Mid-Atlantic region contributed more than 1,700 volunteer hours to community projects and events in the area.
"The Centennial is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our values of strength, performance and passion," said Filiberto Ruiz , deputy chief executive officer of Aggregate Industries US. "The projects the Mid-Atlantic region selected exemplify the goals of Together for Communities. I commend the region's employees for choosing projects that benefit their neighbors and further Aggregate Industries' commitment to sustainability and community leadership."
Throughout 2012, employees from the Mid-Atlantic region participated in numerous events as part of the Together for Communities initiative. In August, volunteers provided maintenance on trees planted along the Anacostia River as part of the Anacostia River cleanup supporting the ecosystem, habitat improvement, and improvement of water quality in the Anacostia watershed. Employees also sponsored miles of highway through the Adopt a Highway Program.
Additional efforts focused on educating the community about AIUS and the concrete industry through various events, including a demonstration at James Ryder Randall Elementary School and the Travilah Quarry Earth Day where local residents were invited to participate in family activities. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Friends of the Quince Orchard Library.
Together for Communities builds on the Holcim mission and extends the values that are essential to creating the highest quality construction materials products. Holcim Ltd hopes to engage as many of its 80,000 worldwide employees as possible to volunteer for one day in their community. Because Holcim recognizes employees have unique knowledge of their communities, each project is employee-led and geared toward local needs. Though each volunteer activity is driven by local needs, the initiative is a global one.
