R.D. Olson Construction, a nationwide contracting firm established in 1979 by Bob Olson, is on pace to complete the $60 million mixed-use Tustin Pacific Center ahead of schedule, delivering the latest prototypes of Marriott's Residence Inn and Fairfield Inn & Suites concepts in California.
The 196,000-square-foot project includes two 4-story hotels, a 149-room Residence Inn by Marriott and a 145-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. Also included is a 16,180-square-foot retail center designed for a mix of restaurant and business service retailers. R.D. Olson Construction broke ground on Tustin Pacific Center in August 2012 amid steady improvement in the lodging market both regionally and nationwide. A July 2013 completion date is planned.
"Our expertise in hotel construction over the past 30+ years allows us to deliver projects with maximum efficiency and competitive pricing through every phase of construction," said Bob Olson, CEO and founder of R.D. Olson Construction. The Irvine, CA-based general contractor has built for Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, Starwood Lodging, InterContinental Hotels Group and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, among others.
Marriott holds high praise for Olson's ability to complete projects ahead of schedule. "Time and again we value the reliability and speed with which R.D. Olson Construction executes on projects, especially those involving our newest designs," said Eric Jacobs, chief development officer of select service and extended stay products at Marriott International.
It's no coincidence that R.D. Olson Construction is building the latest design iteration for Residence Inn by Marriott, the recognized industry leader in the extended-stay hotel market. As a Marriott advisory board member, Bob Olson was actively involved in the Generation 9 design.
"The new design features the utmost in innovative guest offerings and convenience," said Olson. The Residence Inn will include spacious studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom guest suites, leading technology, improved work areas, full kitchens and upscale bathrooms.
The Tustin Fairfield Inn & Suites also represents the latest Generation 4 design by Marriott and is one of the first of its kind in California. Both hotels have numerous guest amenities, including outdoor areas with pools, spas, fire pits and a sports court, exercise rooms, convenience markets, breakfast areas, business centers and meeting space.
The new project has a prominent location on the 55 Freeway at Edinger Avenue in Tustin, CA, and represents another first in the local lodging market: these are the first new hotels built in Tustin in more than 15 years. "Tustin Pacific Center will serve the business travel needs throughout the surrounding area, including John Wayne Airport, the Irvine Business Complex and the Santa Ana Civic Center," added Olson.
R.D. Olson Construction has completed several new hotels in the last 12 months, including the Residence Inn by Marriott in San Juan Capistrano, CA, and Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Oceanside and Santa Barbara, CA, and Maui, HI. The firm has yet another Courtyard by Marriott planned for completion by mid-year 2013 in San Jose, CA, and is nearing completion on the nation's first Legoland Hotel at Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad, CA.
The general contractor is also active in the construction of office buildings, retail centers, apartments, restaurants, health clubs and country clubs. R.D. Olson Construction completed several restaurants during the past year in the newly renovated Los Angeles International Airport and at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. R.D.Olson Construction is also completing tenant improvements for the 36,000-square-foot headquarters facility for Open X in Pasadena, CA, and an Equinox health club facility in Encino, CA.
