National Bowl Re-development Hits Major Milestone

The exciting re-launch of the National Bowl is on track with the announcement today by Milton Keynes Partnership (MKP) that it has received two tenders to develop and manage the facility. Proposals have been received from two consortia - one headed by Gaming International Plc and ClearChannel Entertainment, the other fronted by InterMK Ltd.

Since 1979 this national venue, styled on the large outdoor arenas found in North America, has attracted numerous high profile international performers including The Police, Queen, David Bowie, Guns n’ Roses and REM.

Milton Keynes Partnership launched the selection process earlier this year to find a partner who could both manage the Bowl in the long term and create innovative and exciting plans for the re-development of adjacent vacant land. The first selection stage looked at the developers’ track record; this next stage will examine in detail their creativity and ideas to make the Bowl a well used and truly world class facility. Selection will take place through a formal assessment process which will involve both Milton Keynes Partnership as land owner as well as Milton Keynes Council as planning authority. The process will be managed in accordance with strict tendering procedures laid down by central government. Final selection is due to be complete by the end of this year.

The public will have the chance to have their say prior to a planning application being submitted to Milton Keynes Council by the winning consortia.
