Arup Wins Three Awards at ACES

Arup has won three out of the ten awards on offer at the annual dinner for Singapore's Association of Consulting Engineers (ACES).

On 27 March 2013, Singapore's ACES gathered at its 42nd annual awards dinner to celebrate the sterling contributions made by its engineering professionals to the built environment.

Arup's Mak Swee Chiang was recognised as Young Consulting Engineer of the Year - Structural Engineering for his outstanding project delivery on high profile projects such as the Singapore Flyer, Singapore Sports Hub and The Pinnacle at Sentosa. Swee Chiang is a forward-looking engineer with a zeal for technology. Within Arup, he is part of a larger BIM movement and his forte lies in the use of parametric models.

Vivien Foo took home the Young Consulting Engineer of the Year - Female Engineer. The award recognised Vivien's solid engineering techniques and excellent interpersonal/leadership skills. She stood out from amongst her peers for managing the design and construction aspects of the Singapore Sports Hub with astute leadership. She has also undertaken voluntary work in India for Engineers without Borders

The Marina Bay Sands ArtScience Museum was recognised in the Design Excellence category for its structurally stunning design and response to a very challenging form dictated by the renowned architect Moshe Safdie. The museum’s lotus-like design is simple and pure in its expression yet complex in form. The highly complex geometry required Arup to adopt innovative 3D parametric modelling technologies, the use of which gave a significant reduction in modeling time, better coordination, visualisation of the complex steelwork, and improved communication with the client.

More than 500 guests attended the ceremony, including Guest-of-Honour Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and National Development.
