Johns Manville Launches Innovative Invinsa FR Roof Board with Class A Fire Rating

Johns Manville (JM), a leading supplier of commercial roofing products, proudly announces the innovative Invinsa FR Roof Board. Invinsa FR is a high-density polyisocyanurate cover board capable of achieving a UL Class A fire rating over a combustible roof deck.*

The first of its kind in the high-density polyisocyanurate product category, Invinsa FR is an extension of Invinsa, JM’s proven cover board product. Invinsa FR offers customers several advantages, including:

  • Extended long-term performance of single ply systems at one-third the weight of gypsum cover boards
  • Faster, easier and more cost-efficient installation with no priming required
  • Mineral-surfaced, fiber glass-reinforced facers for excellent water resistance
  • Easy and (virtually) dust-free cutting
  • Ergonomic design for convenient handling during installation

Architects, specifiers and contractors generally agree that adding a cover board enhances the long-term performance of single ply roof systems as well as cold-applied and self-adhering bituminous roof systems.

Contractor and Vice President of Howard Roofing, Ron Malekow, needed an energy-efficient, fire-resistant system for his company’s new facility so he turned to JM for the solution. “The Invinsa FR Roof Board provided the strength, flexibility and light weight we needed, while also giving me the peace of mind knowing we were achieving a Class A fire rating,” Malekow said.

The UL Class A fire rating is applicable to both mechanically fastened and fully adhered single ply systems. When Invinsa FR is installed directly over the roof deck as per JM specifications, the product is eligible to be included in the terms and conditions of the JM Peak Advantage Guarantee for up to 20 years.

At one-third the weight of standard gypsum cover boards, using the Invinsa FR Roof Board saves money on shipping, craning, roof staging and application. In fact, every 100 squares of Invinsa keep nearly five tons of dead weight off the roof when compared to the same thickness of gypsum.

*This rating can be attained when the product is installed underneath single ply roof systems (TPO, PVC and EPDM) over polyisocyanurate insulation or directly to the roof deck.
