Siemens Building Technologies Division is implementing an energy optimization program for the Marriott hotel chain in Europe. During an initial phase, the program will be implemented in 20 European Marriott hotels. Depending on the buildings' conditions, energy savings of 10 to 15 percent per property are expected. Marriott aims to amortize its costs for the necessary investments in energy efficiency measures within three years.

The pilot project for the energy optimization program was the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Marriott Hotel in France. This hotel has already cut its energy costs by 15 percent as part of its energy optimization efforts. Compared to the previous year, electricity and gas costs were 6 and 17 percent lower, respectively, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were cut by 15 percent.
The energy optimization program involves performing an on-site audit, determining individual measurement criteria and optimizing the building management systems and processes according to these criteria. Once the work is completed, the energy consumption data will be continuously monitored and optimized remotely by Siemens energy experts. The program also includes the use of Green Building Monitors. These screens provide employees and guests with the latest energy consumption information in high traffic areas such as elevators and lobbies. The aim is to raise awareness of energy-efficient behavior.
Siemens has developed and successfully implemented the program in around 20 of its own production facilities. Since the program's launch in 2010, it has helped Siemens reduce annual CO2 emissions by 18,000 metric tons and lower energy costs by 5.5 million Euro.
The Energy Efficiency Program is part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal year 2012, revenue from the environmental portfolio totalled about €33 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their CO2 emissions by more than 330 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
