Today, Mears Transportation Group submitted plans with the City of Orlando to build a new company headquarters west of Downtown Orlando.
The new facility will include a two story 56,600 GSF Administration and Operations Building at the front of the property. The building is designed to pay homage to Paul Mears Sr. who opened the first Mears Transportation Group facility in downtown Orlando in 1940 in a modest brick building. The exterior of the new Administration Building will be brick to give references to a historical renovation of an industrial warehouse as though it could have been the original Mears facility expanded over time.
In addition to the administration building, the company will also build a new Vehicle Parts and Maintenance Building that will be a one story 53,500 GSF facility used to maintain the company's fleet of vehicles. Beyond the Maintenance Building there is a fuel station, vacuum bays, manual wash bays and auto car wash for servicing the fleet.
The property is generally located west of Downtown Orlando near Gore Street and Orange Blossom Trail and will encompass approximately 22 acres. The total investment is estimated to top $20 million in land acquisition, design and construction expenses.
