NCC Plans to Build Hotel in Oslo under SEK 250 Million Partnering Contract

NCC is to build a hotel that will be developed by Union Property Capital AS. The project, Karl Johans gate 12, which will be implemented in the form of an NCC Partnering contract, is worth SEK 250 million. The hotel will be operated by Nordic Choice Hotels.

“This is the second hotel that we will have built in central Oslo in a short period of time. It demonstrates our competitiveness when it comes to advanced building and refurbishment projects,” says Håkon Tjomsland, President of NCC Construction in Norway.

During recent years, NCC has refurbished and built the oldest part of Oslo Central Station, Østbanehallen. Nordic Choice Hotels is also the tenant for that property.

The Karl Johans gate 12 building and refurbishment project comprises a property at Kirkegata 34 and large parts of the property at Karl Johans gate 12. The two buildings, which both date back to the 1800s, will be joined together. In total, the project comprises 9,600 square meters of gross floor area on eight stories. The hotel will have 181 rooms, a bar/café and a large restaurant.

During a three-month design phase, builders, a building developer, project managers, the tenant and NCC have worked together. As a result of this design work, the project has been further developed and a joint understanding of the requirements, challenges and solutions has been created.

“The contract is an NCC partnering agreement, which entails close cooperation between all parties during the entire period of construction. All of the parties have been involved to help ensure that the quality of the end product will be as good as possible,” says Nils Christensen, Department Manager at NCC Construction in Norway.

Construction will comply with the Norwegian building standard, TEK 10, based on energy-efficiency class C.
