FOX Architects, LLC won multiple awards October 2 at the NAIOP Maryland/DC Chapter's 2014 Awards of Excellence. FOX Architects was recognized for their Nuclear Energy Institute, American Forest & Paper Association, Barbaricum, Marriott, and 440 First Street projects.
"The NAIOP Maryland/DC Awards of Excellence incorporate so many great achievements in our industry," said Founding Partner, Bob Fox. "It is always a tremendous honor to be recognized by our fellow designers and industry peers. I'm very proud of our FOX team and the recognition is well-deserved."
The awards are as follows:
Barbaricum
Award of Excellence in the Best Interiors for Professional Services up to 10,000 SF. Barbaricum is a Washington DC based Government contractor, and prides themselves on their ability to win work through demonstrated leadership. They wanted a "think tank" atmosphere to support their forward, collaborative culture and for their space to stand out from their competitors. Their frontiersman mentality was recognized by choosing a former furniture factory row house to serve as their headquarters.
American Forest & Paper Association
Award of Excellence in the Best Interiors for Professional Services over 25,000 SF. Located in Washington, DC, the AF&PA desired a highly braded space that evokes the products of their membership. As an association that primarily advocates public policy and emerged as the leading voice for the forest products industry, AF&PA saw an opportunity to create a space that embodies their "Better Practices Better Planet" initiative.
Nuclear Energy Institute
Award of Merit in the Best Interiors for Professional Services over 25,000 SF. The Nuclear Energy Institute saw an opportunity to refresh its brand identity for the 21st century and create a space that embodies its vision: Clean. Air. Energy. FOX created an entirely closed-office environment that still allows for collaboration in their new Washington, DC based headquarters.
Marriott Headquarters
Award of Excellence in the Interiors: Best Common Area Use. Marriott's newly designed café, deemed "The Hub," in its Bethesda, MD headquarters, reflects the corporation's commitment to providing their employees and visitors with a convenient, comfortable environment in which to engage. FOX transformed Marriott's existing, 30-year-old traditional cafeteria into a contemporary central hub of activity, a place to interact with clients and colleagues while dining. The design offers meeting areas, larger flexible conference centers, private dining space and semi-private areas for working or relaxation.
440 First Street
Award of Merit in the Best Sustainable Project. 440 First Street employs many sustainable design strategies, including a Dedicated Outside Air System (DOAS) for HVAC. 440 First Street represents the first operational application of this system in Washington, which helped facilitate the building's USGBC LEED Platinum certification. 440 First Street was carefully conceived from the inside out and the outside in. Its systems and design provide great function and flexibility, while creating a healthier work environment that motivates its inhabitants.
