Construction Underway on New Affordable Senior Housing in Fort Macleod

Local seniors will soon have new affordable housing options in Fort Macleod. A 40-unit lodge will be built on the site of the existing Macleod Pioneer Lodge and will help to better accommodate the needs of residents.

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), along with the Honourable Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing, made the announcement today.

  • The Governments of Canada and Alberta contributed some $7.25 million to the project through the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement (IAH 2014-2019).
  • The new 40 units will be built on the site of the existing 37-unit lodge, located at 660-28th Street in Fort Macleod. Residents will enjoy larger rooms, full in-suite washrooms and be protected by modern fire and safety systems.
  • The Willow Creek Foundation is contributing some $1.8 million to the project.
  • The Willow Creek Foundation is responsible for the existing Macleod Pioneer Lodge, the Chinook Arch Manor in Granum and the Colonel Macleod Manors One and Two in Fort Macleod.
