Best Building In Scotland

The award for Scotland’s best building has been presented by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland to a ferry shelter on the island of Tiree. The building project called, An Turas, received one of the world’s largest prizes for building - £25,000.

In awarding the prize the judges considered innovation, design excellence, sustainability and competence, materials, technical ability and aesthetic appeal. The building name, An Turas, means “A Journey” and although the building is basically a modern interpretation of the gazebo, it is more than a simple shelter. Described as a stunning architectural experience, the building is a place to experience Tiree, from the beauty of the sky, wind and water to it’s squalor.
