HSE reports that the biggest cause of construction accidents is simply getting to work

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have just published two reports that find the single biggest cause of construction accidents is simply getting to the ‘workface’. The reports state that most accidents occur while walking across sites, handling materials or moving to the area of work. They also report that simple design modifications could readily prevent or decrease the severity of these accidents.

The two reports are “HSE Research Report 139: Sample analysis of construction accidents reported to HSE” and “HSE Research Report 156: Causal factors in construction accidents”. The reports are available from the HSE website.
