It’s not due to open until next year but already 90 floors of the 101 floor “Taipei 101” skyscraper are built.
When complete it will add 200,000 sqm of office space to the Taiwanese capital and the gigantic international shopping mall in the base of the building is almost fully pre-let. Although the architect CY Lee and Partners says the ‘City Square’ plaza will “rival the great public places of the world” current interest is focussed on the hotel rights for floors 67-84.
With only the Grand Hyatt Shanghai having higher hotel rooms (with rooms on the 85th floor of the Jin Mao Building) aggressive negotiations are taking place between Taipei Financial Center Corp and four interested hoteliers; Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, the Ritz-Carlton, the St. Regis and the Le Meridien.
