Principia Announces Hot Topics Program on WPCs Used in Building Materials

Principia Partners is pleased to announce a “Hot Topics” program format for its seventh annual executive conference on WOOD-PLASTIC and NATURAL FIBER COMPOSITES 2010 at Charlotte Marriott City Center in Charlotte, NC on October 4 and 5, 2010.

Principia’s conference covers the latest developments for WPCs and other materials used in decking, railing, fencing, siding and other building materials. This year’s new conference format tackles the industry’s hottest topics by using short, focused presentations in combination with audience polling technology and panel discussions.

Each hot topic session will start with a Principia-led presentation to set up the issues, followed by three or four 15 minute presentations by representative companies across the value chain, ranging from suppliers of raw materials and processing equipment, building products manufacturers, distributors/dealers, contractors) that will specifically address these market dynamics. Following these presentations, interactive technology will be used to poll conference attendees, and these survey results will be shared with a panel of industry participants for discussion with all conferences attendees.

Jim Morton, Senior Partner, says “We are excited about the hot topics format. The feedback from previous conference attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. People like the idea of in-depth discussions, the use of audience polling technology, and the laser focus on the issues affecting current and future demand.”

Various categories for the hot topics program will include decking and railing, fence, siding, industrial and commercial. Examples of specific hot topics to be discussed for decking and railing include:

  • Growth of the ultra low maintenance category and share capture between cellular PVC and capped WPCs
  • Growing use of hardscapes and a decline in average deck size
  • Status of the wood-synthetic decking adoption curve
  • New deck codes and expected impact on industry
  • Mixed material railing systems and trends
  • Wood vs. vinyl vs. composites vs. metal railing demand trends

A number of companies have already committed to participating in the program either as speakers or panelists, including executives from:

  • Parksite
  • Boise
  • Snavely Forest Products
  • T.W. Perry
  • Leisure Specialties
  • Fine Decks, Inc.
  • Peachtree Decks & Porches
  • Arch Chemicals

The company offers a complete color lab to develop and test color and additives, which may include UV light stabilizers, antioxidants, antimicrobials, flame retardants, and Mojo™ wood streaker effects.

Principia's unique forum continues to be an outstanding way for attendees to learn and network with others from around the world. The event will offer the industry an opportunity to collaborate, build and enhance strategic partnerships and alliances while broadening the traditional scope of the building products industry.

In addition, companies including raw materials, equipment, and processing leaders will exhibit their latest product and service offerings aimed at the wood-plastic and natural fiber composites industry.
