Roads, Pavements & Hardstands - The Cost Effective, Ecologically Sound Ecoflex E Pave System

E Pave is a patented technology for the construction of roads, pavements and hardstands that is particularly effective in areas of poor ground quality.

E Pave projects are constructed using a unique adaptable container – The Ecoflex Unit. Derived from quality controlled recycled tyres, the Ecoflex Unit utilises the pre-existing high tensile strength of steel wire in the tyre to form an incredibly strong containment Unit. Once filled with appropriate material, this container becomes a round porous Unit capable of supporting heavy wheel surcharge loads.

E Pave Advantages

  • Particularly Suited to Poor Subgrade Conditions
  • Lower Cost than Conventional Pavements
  • Faster Construction
  • Technical Performance
  • Sustainable Technology
  • Permeable

“E Pave allows us to build access roads that cost a fraction of our normal cost and are less disruptive to the local community and environment.”, Bruce Fletcher, CSG Engineering

E Pave Technology

E Pave is a patented technology for the construction of roads, pavements and hardstands that is particularly effective in areas of poor ground quality.

E Pave projects are constructed using a unique adaptable container – The Ecoflex Unit. Derived from quality controlled recycled tyres, the Ecoflex Unit utilises the pre-existing high tensile strength of steel wire in the tyre to form an incredibly strong containment Unit. Once filled with appropriate material, this container becomes a round porous Unit capable of supporting heavy wheel surcharge loads.

Ecoflex Units are than combined in various cellular arrangements to perform as a durable, flexible road. For heavy loads two or more layers of Ecoflex Units will be used.

Combining high structural strength and excellent drainage performance the Ecoflex Unit provides the perfect system for building roads, pavements and hardstands, especially in areas of poor ground quality and/or environmental sensitivity.

Engineering Properties of the Ecoflex Unit

  • Speed and ease of construction delivers low cost construction
  • Excellent load distribution and high tensile strength ensures structural performance.
  • Excellent drainage characteristics for better performance in saturated conditions
  • Durability and longevity well in excess of the most stringent design requirements
  • Easy to deconstruct, remove & reuse for temporary access roads

Building With E Pave

Ecoflex Australia licenses construction firms to use the E Pave system. The E Pave cost advantage enables E Pave licensees to win more business and/or increase their margins in every construction project.

Technically Effective

"In the mining industry, the ability to traverse saturated ground cost effectively is paramount. The E Pave system has shown itself far superior to conventional technologies. As well as the 25% we saved on construction costs, we cut our downtime by 80% because E Pave can be used as soon as it is installed – the total cost saving is huge.", Neil Cann, Manager Longwall Haul

Applications

  • Bearing Axle Loads > 40 tonne
  • Tracked Equipment

Permeable

  • Better than Conventional in Saturated Conditions
  • Suitable for Poor CBR Subgrade
  • Reduces/eliminates expensive drainage systems

Construction Speed

  • Lay Faster than Conventional – Shorter Project Duration
  • Labour Saving
  • Lower Plant & Machinery Cost

Environment

  • Reduces Road Footprint by 20% (No Batters)
  • Reduces Volume of Material Required in Pavement

Tested & Proven

  • Over 50 Projects in 5 Years
  • Tested by University of Newcastle
  • Each Project Designed & Certified by Professional Structural Engineers

Cost Effective

The E Pave system is cost effective at every stage in the design and construction process. The construction process is faster and lowers cost because Ecoflex products are themselves low cost and because the construction system is simply easier to construct than conventional road and pavement systems. The net result is a superior road, pavement or hardstand that costs less to build – as much as 20% less than conventional technologies.

Sustainable Technology

The Problem

Australians dispose of 18 Million used tyres every year. The vast majority of these end up in landfill sites or illegally dumped – a 100% waste of valuable resources and significant use of limited landfill volume. Because waste tyres degrade extremely slowly in landfill they represent a long term cost to the environment.

The Solution

Ecoflex turns a used tyre into a valuable resource. By recycling used tyres Ecoflex not only solves the disposal problem but reduces the environmental cost of virgin products. The decision to build an E Pave Road or Hardstand instead of a traditional pavement made from virgin products, has the effect of saving both total energy required and in turn the greenhouse gases production of virgin material.

Ecoflex is accredited under ISO 14001 – the International Standard and is also certified by the Australian Ecolabel Program.
