"Concrete Twist" designed by current Penn State Stuckeman Chair of Integrative Design, Mehrdad Hadighi, was selected by domus online as one of their top-10 architectural stories of 2012. Completed in 2008 by Hadighi of Studio for Architecture and Tsz Yan Ng, the building houses all of the functions of the Layfayette 148 clothing-label company and is organized around the flow of production. It is located in Shantou, China.

Marriott Hotel Chain Selects Siemens to Implement Energy Optimization Program

Siemens Building Technologies Division is implementing an energy optimization program for the Marriott hotel chain in Europe. During an initial phase, the program will be implemented in 20 European Marriott hotels. Depending on the buildings' conditions, energy savings of 10 to 15 percent per property are expected. Marriott aims to amortize its costs for the necessary investments in energy efficiency measures within three years.

AIA Approves Green Building Initiative’s Green Globes Training Course

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) announced today that their new Green Globes training course has been approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for continuing education credit. AIA members need 18 Learning Units per year, 12 of which must be in Health/Safety/Welfare (HSW) topics.

Piedmont Natural Gas Announces Newly Renovated, LEED-Certified Facility in Rockingham

Piedmont Natural Gas today announced plans to relocate its 36 employees in Rockingham to a newly renovated, LEED-certified facility in Rockingham West Industrial Park. The new building will replace the current Rockingham resource center and become Piedmont's third LEED-certified facility under the United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED rating system. Piedmont plans to begin renovations on the new facility by late July 2013, with plans to have it fully operational by spring 2014.
