Rebuilding Together, the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership, is working with sponsor HSBC Bank, to deliver critical and energy-efficient renovations to a deserving family struggling to make ends meet.
Rebuilding Together Washington, DC, one of the 200 Rebuilding Together affiliates located across the country, will work with HSBC Bank (Mid-Atlantic Region) to not only rebuild a home, but also perform energy-efficient upgrades to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the home for its low-income homeowners.
Mr. and Mrs. H, ages 73 and 65 respectively, have lived in their Ward 7 home for over 16 years, and have been married for 47 years. Mr. H is a veteran; he served in the military during the 1950's and did a tour in Japan. Their total annual income is just $14,000. Mr. H is retired, but Mrs. H still works in order to pay for her husband's medical bills. Mr. H suffers from heart disease, has had 2 bypass surgeries, is on a defibrillator, and experiences several other debilitating health issues. Mrs. H has heart problems and other health concerns as well.

"We will be able to repair and replace the roof and gutters, weatherize and caulk all windows and doors, install much needed handrails, grab bars, and other handicap modifications. With the help of HSBC Bank and their volunteers, we will create a safer, warmer, and more energy efficient environment in which Mr. and Mrs. H may age in place."
Due to their extensive health problems and age, they have not been able to complete repairs necessary for them to stay in their home. Rebuilding Together and HSBC Bank will perform these renovations for them so they can remain in their home. Additionally, the energy-efficient upgrades will lower utility and general living costs, allowing Mr. and Mrs. H to spend more of their resources on their medical necessities.
Rebuilding Together's Green Housing Initiative focuses specifically on providing environmentally friendly rehabilitations, while simultaneously performing outreach to educate homeowners and communities on the value of energy-efficiency.
