Noveda Systems to be Used to Monitor Energy Consumption in EcoCommercial Building Projects

Bayer MaterialScience LLC announces it will utilize energy monitoring solutions from Noveda Technologies to optimize the energy performance of its EcoCommercial Building (ECB) projects around the world. Noveda, based in Branchburg, N.J., is the latest addition to the ECB Network, which brings together leading companies that provide state-of-the-art product and service technologies, making energy-efficient, sustainable and profitable building possible.

It’s estimated that buildings are currently responsible for more than 40 percent of the world's energy use and roughly 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. These statistics are among those fueling an increased interest in the design, construction and ongoing operation of more sustainable structures. According to Noveda, use of its real-time energy and water monitoring solutions can slash energy and water consumption by an average of 15 percent, dramatically demonstrating the ROI of incorporating sustainable elements into new or retrofitted structures.

“We believe energy monitoring and management is an effective approach for driving energy savings and reducing the carbon footprint,” said Govi Rao, president and CEO of Noveda Technologies. “Our technologies and services complement many types of energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart grid initiatives, putting us squarely in the same ecosystem as the ECB Network of organizations.”

Bayer is building net zero energy/emission commercial buildings in major regions of the world to showcase the viability of its EcoCommercial Building initiative. Bayer will utilize Noveda’s energy monitoring dashboard to visualize the energy performance of each Bayer ECB building. Viewers will be able to access data in real time via a new ECB online resource. The four existing ECB buildings are being equipped with Noveda energy monitoring technology. Starting with the ECB Conference Center, located on Bayer’s North American headquarters campus in suburban Pittsburgh, the technology will then be rolled out at ECB buildings in Monheim, Germany; Greater Noida, India; and Diegem, Belgium. Noveda’s energy monitoring technology will also be utilized at future ECB buildings, including four buildings on Bayer’s Pittsburgh campus being renovated to boost their energy efficiency.

“Noveda’s intuitive and comprehensive energy monitoring solution is a valuable tool building owners can use to minimize energy costs while optimizing employee comfort and sustainability,” said Paul Platte, head, EcoCommercial Building in North America, Bayer MaterialScience LLC. “This technology validates the tenets of the ECB initiative – that commercial buildings can be eco-friendly and economically viable. Noveda is a key addition to the ECB Network, further expanding the breadth of expertise ECB can offer to the sustainable building market.”

About the EcoCommercial Building Network

The EcoCommercial Building (ECB) network offers a single point of entry into a world of materials, products and services that help building professionals achieve performance and economic objectives for sustainable construction projects.

By collaboratively addressing today’s complex value chain, the ECB Network advances a comprehensive approach to sustainable construction with performance metrics and technical support that make it feasible to predict how the technologies will perform in a fully operational building. The ECB Network both streamlines the search for and advances the implementation of sustainable building options, enabling architects, engineers, contractors and other decision makers to save valuable time and money.

ECB brings together leading companies that provide state-of-the-art product and service technologies, making energy-efficient, sustainable and profitable building possible. Members include Acuity Brands, Bayer, Bostik, CB Richard Ellis, CENTRIA, Deloitte LLP, Eaton Corporation, Graham Architectural Products, IDC Architects, Johnson Controls,Inc., Kingspan, Noveda Technologies and Winco Windows. ECB has also established alliances with organizations that execute building projects and study the next generation of sustainable design: PJ Dick Incorporated and Burns & Scalo Roofing.

Bayer MaterialScience advanced performance materials include waterborne, renewable content, and ultra low-to-zero volatile organic compound (VOCs) coatings and sealants, customized polyurethane spray foam and polyiso board insulation, as well as polycarbonate sheet.
