Efficiency Maine Innovation Program to be Offered by Retroficiency and Energy & Resource Solutions

Retroficiency and Energy & Resource Solutions (ERS) today announced that the companies will partner to deliver an Efficiency Maine Innovation Program. The one-year pilot program will leverage electric interval consumption and building asset data analytics to drive more effective energy efficiency program engagement and participation across a portfolio of small and medium commercial buildings.

“Efficiency Maine is excited to support this Innovation Program to explore ways that small and medium business customers can use smart meter data to save energy at their facilities,” said Michael Stoddard, Executive Director, Efficiency Maine. “We like to ‘test drive’ new uses for technology before we make a commitment to incorporate it into the statewide energy efficiency programs, and we believe data-driven insights from Retroficiency’s platform, combined with ERS’ program management capabilities, may have the potential to save energy more quickly and at a lower cost.”

Retroficiency’s Building Efficiency Intelligence platform will underpin a closed-loop process for energy efficiency program targeting, customer engagement, project conversion, and efficiency tracking. The process for this program will include:

  • A no touch Virtual Energy Assessment leveraging interval consumption data and a property address to prioritize building portfolios and engage customers with operational and retrofit opportunities that exist in each building
  • A rapid, comprehensive on-site audit of high potential buildings conducted by a select group of Efficiency Maine Qualified Partners, using Retroficiency’s Automated Energy Audit application, optimized to convert real projects and maximize savings
  • Post-implementation savings tracking and a re-evaluation of buildings to determine if new opportunities exist

ERS will support the entire energy efficiency program management process, including customer recruitment, communicating opportunities identified through the virtual assessments, and developing specific projects through the audit and by working with local contractors to ensure execution.

“Utilities and efficiency program administrators like Efficiency Maine are increasingly seeking to leverage available consumption and asset data to drive energy efficiency programs at scale,” said Bennett Fisher, co-founder and CEO, Retroficiency. “We applaud Efficiency Maine’s support of analytics-based efficiency evaluation and are excited to be working with a leading program implementer like ERS to demonstrate the value of this approach.”

“ERS continuously strives to find new and innovative techniques to help us manage energy efficiency programs across large portfolios,” said Bruce Harrington, vice president, ERS. “Advanced analytics offers an important tool to rapidly evaluate customer potential and fully develop measures on an ongoing basis.”

Two businesses — East Brown Cow Property Management, a real estate management, investment and development company, and Norway Savings Bank, a community bank providing personal and business services — have already committed to participating in the program. These organizations have more than 40 small-and-medium-sized buildings throughout Maine. Additional buildings are currently being recruited to participate.

“East Brown Cow Management is always interested in learning about evolving technologies in the pursuit of finding new ways to be more energy efficient,” said Todd Dominski, property manager, East Brown Cow Property Management.
