IKO, a North American pioneer and global leader in the roofing materials business, has just added a new color choice in keeping with New England’s colonial heritage.
According to Director of Marketing, Carol Perkins, “Cambridge AR is IKO’s biggest-selling architectural laminated asphalt shingle. IKO’s Cambridge AR product is heavier (per square) than most competitors’ comparable products for its class in the industry. It also has built-in algae-resistance which is so important for the maritime climate of the Northeast. Cambridge AR is available in an impressive array of colors. So it’s a real challenge to come up with improvements to this particular product.”
She goes on to say that IKO’s engineers have done just that, with their latest color introduction: Patriot Slate.
“The architecture in the Northeast reflects the area’s historical, colonial roots. There are many heritage homes whose owners want the look of real slate without the natural stone’s weight and high cost. Many new homes built in this part of the country also feature that colonial aesthetic.

Our ridge cap shingles in the same new Patriot Slate color are a beautiful and natural accessory product to enhance such a home’s curb appeal.”
The color technology that IKO developed and patented many years ago revolutionized the roofing industry by virtually guaranteeing consistency from batch to batch and from plant to plant. Color blends with subtle gradations and deep shadow bands, like Patriot Slate’s, could not have been manufactured so precisely otherwise. The addition of algae-resistant granules allowed lighter shades to be integrated into the blends as well.
