NCC’s Koggen 2 Building in Malmö Receives Swedish Green Building Award

NCC’s Koggen 2 (https://www.ncc.se/) building in Malmö has been named BREEAM building of the year. The Koggen 2 office building has been awarded the highest environmental classification according to the BREEAM environmental certification system.

“Having the first building in the Nordic region to be certified as BREEAM Excellent is an important milestone. We are extremely gratified to have received the Sweden Green Building Award,” says Veronica Koutny Sochman, Environmental Manager at NCC Property Development.

NCC received the Sweden Green Building Award in conjunction with the major Sweden Green Building Conference, which is organized jointly with the Ekobygg Trade Fair in Kista. The award encourages sustainable building in Sweden and rewards the properties and projects that worked best to achieve sustainable building and sustainable city planning in the past year. The Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC) is responsible for the awards.

The rationale for awarding the prize to NCC’s proprietarily developed office building, Koggen 2, was as follows: “Through innovative technical solutions, NCC created a greener and more visionary office environment.”

“The certification and the award are the fruits of NCC’s proactive ambition to become an environmental and sustainability leader,” says Carola Lavén, Business Area Manager, NCC Property Development.

Koggen 2 comprises 8,000 square meters of office space on six stories and is NCC’s most recent office project in Västra Hamnen in Malmö. The design of the building is well conceived with respect to the structure and climate shell, and its energy consumption is nearly 50 percent lower than the requirement stipulated in the Swedish Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s construction regulations. Carefully selected materials for the facade, roof and hardened surfaces, as well as insulation that takes into consideration the lifecycle of the building, contributed to the achievement of BREEAM Excellent.

The office premises were developed according to “Future Office by NCC,” a Nordic concept aimed at creating attractive and sustainable workplaces for the customer.
