Blu® Homes, Inc. ("Blu"), America's leading provider of premium prefab homes, today announced that it will break ground on its first home in Canada, delivered to Cortes Island near Vancouver during the second week of April.
The Sidebreeze, a stunning two story model featuring Blu's signature glass-walled "Breezespace", will be shipped via two ferries and a barge to a difficult-to-reach location on the Pacific Coast, demonstrating that Blu's proprietary home designs and technology make them accessible to even the most challenging building sites.
Coinciding with the Cortes Island delivery, Blu Founder & CEO Bill Haney will be a featured panelist on innovation in housing at the 2014 Annual Spring Meeting of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global organization of housing leaders and developers focused on the responsible use of land, and on creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
Blu's first Canadian homeowner, Mark Spevakow, an entrepreneur and businessman in Vancouver, described why he built with Blu: "Blu's designs are stunning, and their technology meant we could build our dream home faster than with a long and antiquated stick build process. We customized an architect-designed home online, chose luxury eco finishes and appliances with fixed pricing, and now have our home being delivered by Blu's team. I'm very proud to be the first-ever owner of a Blu Home on Canadian soil."
The Spevakow family had been researching home options for their property on Cortes Island for years, and chose the Sidebreeze model due to the island property's boot-shaped, narrow topography. The design's two-story views of the ever-changing ocean landscape create a seamless connection between the home and its unique coastal setting.
