New Green Roof Maintenance Guidelines Released by Columbia Green Technologies

Columbia Green Technologies (Columbia Green) offers vegetated roof solutions to meet the unique challenges of the rooftop growing environment.

Columbia Green has compiled recommendations for successful establishment of a green roof and ongoing maintenance activities thereafter. Health, vigor and beauty of the roof can be increased by careful attention to these guidelines. This eighteen-page comprehensive maintenance document includes: post-installation checklists, sample logs, and advice for trouble-shooting.

Proper irrigation is key to a successful green roof, and Columbia Green recommends automated irrigation in most climates. Columbia Green’s newest product, the Planted-In-Place Tray System, is simple to install and features integrated irrigation. The interlocking trays are assembled on the rooftop, filled with growing media and then planted. “Integrated irrigation means plants thrive with less maintenance and long-term cost,” says Elaine Kearney, ASLA, PLA, Technical Director, Columbia Green Technologies.

Columbia Green’s customers have adopted the recommendations with success. “Landscape Professionals proudly endorses the green roof systems provided by Columbia Green Technologies. The innovative Planted-In-Place Tray System is simple to install and features integrated irrigation. Our customers love the wide variety of planting options, instant 100% coverage with sedum tiles and easy maintenance. The design eliminates the need for additional drainage, retention & root barrier layers. Building the system on the roof enables faster or staged installation and lower overall costs than pre-grown trays,” says Robert Cook, Vice President, CEI Michigan, LLC.
