Acrow Announces Increased Use of Modular Steel Bridges in Highway and Road Construction

Acrow Bridge, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, today announced that the use of its prefabricated modular steel bridges as detours during highway and road construction grew incrementally during the past 12 months, with an increase of 4 percent.

Acrow’s ready-to-assemble, reusable steel bridges remain a popular choice with contractors and departments of transportation (DOTs), as they offer a number of advantages over both the traditional concrete and steel temporary detour bridge and “phased” construction, in which lanes are moved as needed to divert traffic around work sites.

“More and more contractors and DOTs are using Acrow modular steel bridges as detours to stay on or ahead of schedule and reduce costs, while providing a safe and dependable route for traffic that steers everyone away from workers and the construction site,” said Bill Killeen, President and CEO of Acrow. “Our detour bridges meet multiple highway transportation standards, are pre-engineered and accepted by all DOTs, and materially reduce engineering time. They are also fast and easy to transport, store and assemble – and often used to get traffic flowing in under a week. And additional safety features, such as a TL-4 steel crash barrier system, can be easily installed with our bridges to maximize driver safety.”

By using prefabricated modular bridge components, contractors achieve the desired detour length, width and design load standards simply by using more or less components to meet different traffic needs. This also enables Acrow bridges to be installed and removed quickly and cost-effectively, which contributes to project productivity and profitability.

“Acrow’s advanced modular steel technology is considered a gold standard in the industry,” Killeen added. “Many of our detour bridges are being used on the nation’s busiest highways. With the constant need to repair and replace aging infrastructure as cost-effectively as possible, our bridges offer a sensible solution.”
