Novel Powder Coated Patterns and Imagery for Rolling Doors

Cornell Iron Works and The Cookson Company, brands of CIW Enterprises, Inc., are the first rolling door manufacturers to introduce powder coated patterns and imagery for coiling service doors, fire doors and rolling counter shutters.

Unlike vinyl or laminate surface-applied applications, the powder coated graphic is baked onto the rolling door components, including curtains, guides and bottom bars, and continues seamlessly around odd edges and corners. Architects and end users can incorporate coiling doors as part of the interior or exterior design of a building with a variety of 'faux' finishes such as wood grain, brick and marble, along with custom artwork or logos.

Vibrant powder coated graphics can be used to promote a brand or display unique imagery, adding an unexpected visual element to service doors, insulated service doors, fire doors or rolling counter shutters. Powder coating graphics onto perforated doors allows ventilation and visibility, along with displaying the selected graphic or pattern.

"During development, we found architects were very interested in the durability and visual options this process offers," states Jason Millard, Cornell Iron Works' Architectural & Design Support team lead. "We can powder coat every part of the door, so it can really become part of the architects' design. We've installed powder coated graphics doors in meeting rooms, educational facilities and private businesses."

The powder coated graphic process utilizes recyclable substrates, medium and water-based inks, and near net zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and creates resistance to humidity, corrosion and light.
