UK Consumers Prefer Environmentally Responsible Goods

The Social Market Foundation (SMF) has presented information claiming that 82% of UK consumers prefer goods and services that are socially and environmentally responsible with 23% choosing to do so even if the ethical option is more expensive.

The new report, “Race to the Top: how government, business and consumers can drive CSR” also found that:

  • 64% of those surveyed wanted clearer labelling so that they could judge how responsible the products are.
  • 51% said government should name and shame irresponsible companies and give praise and tax incentives to responsible companies.
  • 37% said that government should pass legislation to ensure responsible corporate behaviour.
  • 25% believe the public should make more effort to be ethical consumers.
