Fire Retardant Product Receives National & International Approval

Inspecta-Shield, a product from Northeast Fireshield of Bohemia, New York, has received national and international approval as a fire retardant treatment for dimensional lumber and plywood from ICC Evaluation Service, the governmental designated international building products testing service. The approval makes Inspecta-Shield the only Class "A" certified spray-on fire retardant product and this specified type application process in the country.

"We have been working diligently to have fire and building professionals accept what we already know," stated Robert Licata, Northeast Fireshield CEO, "that Inspecta-Shield is the most effective fire retardant compound available on the market today for this approved use."

National and International Approval Inspecta-Shield's new national and international approval number (ESR-2019) was granted as a result of extensive mandated testing by ICC Evaluation Services (ICC-ES) for compliance with the 2003 International Fire Code (IFC) and 2003 International existing Building code (IEBC). It is supported by the existing New York City (MEA) Department of Buildings approval for treatment of dimensional lumber and plywood. The result is the Inspecta-Shield spray-on product and the certified application process is the only product/application process approved in compliance with the new code to achieve a Class "A" flame spread (25) or less.

Other agencies accepting Inspecta-Shield include Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), New York City Fire Department Certificate of Acceptance and the Office of the California State Fire Marshal -- to mention only a few.

Inspecta-Shield, a clear odorless liquid, that contains no hazardous materials, is a consumer friendly, green label Underwriters Laboratory Classified Product.

Boon to Re-Modelers and Builders

Under this new approval Inspecta-Shield may be applied on-site by certified applicator, trained by Northeast Fireshield, to existing structures including framing, lumber, rafters, plywood paneling, flooring, sub-floors and moldings. Flame proofing certificates are issued stipulating compliance with the requirements of ASTM-84 Class "A" 25 or less flame spread. With this approval, restorations can be completed without tearing out existing wood structures by just spraying with Inspecta-Shield to bring the construction up to code. Both Commercial builders and homeowners utilizing the process can apply for insurance reductions that can result in discounts ranging from 10 percent to 30 percent depending on the extent of the wood treated.

Inspecta-Shield clients range from companies such as: Tulnoy Lumber, Chesler Plywood, Interstate Plywood and organizations such as the NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), New York Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Institute, NASA and Lockheed Aircraft.
