ASTM International to Introduce a New Standard to Check Mold Growth on Building Materials
ASTM International, an international standards development and delivery systems company, has planned to introduce a new ASTM WK32079 standard to find out the mold-resistance attributes of a building material.
The proposed test method will help determine the growth of mold on building products used for exterior applications. The standard is currently being formulated by a division of ASTM Committee G03 on Weathering and Durability called Subcommittee G03.04 on Biological Deterioration.
The ASTM WK32079 method explains an ecological chamber and direct operational conditions to assess the mold growth and the inbuilt resistance to mold growth of a building product in a for four-week period. The proposed ASTM WK32079 standard is anticipated to be more in-depth than the one presently being formulated by D01.28 for interior applications.
The main users of the standard will be from a number of segments such as construction materials, manufacturers, chemical businesses that produce mold-resistant products and private labs that assess mold-resistant products.
ASTM is encouraging people to take part in the development of the required standards.
